GAMING DAY 'HERTS OF LARD'!

On March 23rd, 2024, historical wargaming enthusiasts gathered in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, for the much-anticipated 'Herts Of Lard' Too Fat Lardies event. The event promised a day filled with thrilling tabletop battles spanning various historical periods, from the battlegrounds of World War II to the intrigues of the English Civil War, Napoleonic and even a Sherlock Holmes-themed game, using the What a Cowboy ruleset.

As I stepped into the venue, I was immediately captivated by the sight of meticulously crafted tabletops, each telling its own story and inviting players to immerse themselves in historical conflicts. However, it was the epic Stalingrad table that truly stole the show, its intricate details and vivid scenery evoking the harrowing battle on the Eastern Front.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to engage in two games, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

One of the highlights of the event was the chance to explore different historical periods and scenarios through tabletop gaming via the Too Fat Lardies Rulesets, which I have to say im a huge fan of. No literally I have to say it. Rich told me so, should I wish to return next year!! :-P

But beyond the thrill of victory or the challenge of strategic gameplay, what truly stood out was the sense of camaraderie and passion shared among fellow enthusiasts. From exchanging tactics and strategies to sharing anecdotes and laughs, the event brought together like-minded individuals who share a love for history and gaming.

As the day drew to a close, I left Herts Of Lard with a sense of fulfillment and excitement, already looking forward to the next opportunity to gather with fellow gamers and embark on new adventures across the annals of history. It was a great laugh and the banter continued long into the night at the local pub.

In conclusion, Herts Of Lard was not just a gaming event—it was an immersive experience, a celebration of history, and a gathering of kindred spirits united by a shared passion for tabletop wargaming and most importantly, a bloody good laugh! Big thanks to Joe Bilton for organising the event, (and providing that epic Stalingrad table) Until next year, may the dice roll ever in your favor, and may the battles be as epic as the memories we create together on the battlefield.
